Job responsibilities

Policy and Service Responsibility The post holder will work according to Trust standards, policies and procedures ensuring compliance with policy procedures and clinical guidelines and is accountable and responsible to the registered nursing team All staff have a responsibility to ensure that the needs of the service are met in a timely and efficient manner

Responsibility for Finance, Equipment and Other Resources To undertake a responsible attitude towards economy and care of equipment and property, and be aware of conditions/hazards Have an awareness of utilising stock and resources effectively Competent use of equipment. Training and supporting others

Responsibility for Supervision, Leadership and Management Participating in developing a career plan Participate in reflection as part of imbedded practice Work alongside senior staff to help develop yourself Participate in staff meetings and think creatively and innovatively regarding the department Attend mandatory training ensuring this is kept up-to-date and develop and maintain own knowledge and skillsInformation Technology and Administrative Duties Follow TSDHCFT Policies and use correct agreed documentations Stay up to date with the Trusts innovative IT systems Ensure mandatory training is up to date

Person Specification

Qualifications and Training

Essential

• Proven experience as an HCA in a hospital setting
• Care Certificate
• NVQ Level 3

Desirable

• Evidence of continued study

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

• Confidence in own ability to manage your own workload
• Be able to evaluate care delivered and plan ahead.
• Be able to identify a sick or deteriorating patient
• To have an understanding of how to undertake and monitor vital signs on children
• To understand principles of safeguarding and to be able to make appropriate referrals

Specific Skills

Essential

• Ability to work in under pressure and flexibly
• Be competent in recording and understanding vital signs
• To be competent in performing ECGs
• Have basic wound management skills
• Demonstrable effective communication skills

Desirable

• To be able to undertake venepuncture and cannulation
• To be able to perform male/female catheterisation
