Main duties of the job

As a Clinic Support Worker, your core responsibilities encompass patient-centred care and support.

You will be instrumental in providing vital assistance to patients by offering guidance, empathy, and practical assistance throughout their cancer treatment journey.

Your duties include greeting patients for appointments, maintaining accurate patient records, supporting the efficient running out of outpatient clinics, and creating a nurturing environment where patients and their families can find comfort and emotional support.

By upholding the highest standards of care and professionalism, you will play a crucial role in enhancing the overall patient experience and contributing to the success of our Oncology care team.

About us

The Oncology outpatient suite is situated in its own purpose-built area within the Sinclair Oncology Centre.

There is a dedicated waiting area, quiet room and doctor's office space.

Consultant clinics are supported by specialist clinic support workers and an oncology outpatient administration team.

You will be part of a dedicated team of experienced and compassionate support workers committed to providing the best possible care and support be creating the efficient bridge between patients and their healthcare journey.

Your attention to detail and your ability to maintain confidentiality will be crucial in maintaining the trust of our patients and ensuring they receive the best care possible.

Job responsibilities

As a Clinic Support Worker your primary responsibilities will include:

  1. Patient Assistance:
  • Greeting and assisting patients with a warm and empathetic demeanour.
  • Escorting patients to their appointments, offering reassurance and comfort as needed.
  • Conducting patient observations.
  • Ensure that patients understand their follow-up arrangements and explains the timing of any investigations requested by the clinician.
  • Liaising with the research radiographer/nurses as appropriate when clinic patients are invited to join a clinical trial.
  1. Administrative Support:
  • Maintaining accurate patient records and documentation on systems such as IHCS.
  • Coordinating appointment schedules and liaising with healthcare providers.
  • Maintaining stock of forms and data sheets used in the clinics, photocopying as required or advising others when external forms need ordering.
  1. Comfort and Compassion:
  • Creating a welcoming and calming environment for patients and their families.
  • Offering emotional support and a listening ear during difficult moments.
  • Collaborating closely with the Oncology care team to address patient needs.
  1. Infection Control:
  • Adhering to strict infection control protocols to maintain a safe clinic environment.
  • Ensuring that all equipment and surfaces are properly sanitized.

  • NVQ in Care Level Two
  • Care certificate (to be undertaken on appointment)
  • Experience in the healthcare environment/basis
  • Basic clinical skills with regards to patient observations

  • To undertake Venepuncture training (may be done on appointment)
  • Able to take ECGs
  • A knowledge of medical terminology
