Job summary
Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust (TSDFT) have an exciting opportunity as a Team Lead within the Torbay Drug and Alcohol Service. This role will manage a team of staff including nurses, social workers and support staff to deliver pharmacological and psychosocial interventions for the service.
This role will be based at Shrublands House in Torquay supporting a partnership approach to working between Devon Partnership Trust, Humankind, TSDFT and Jatis.
This partnership is known as Torbay Recovery Initiatives (TRI). The service is currently undergoing exciting change having recently moved into a Multiple Complex Needs Alliance with Torbay Domestic Abuse services and with the local Homelessness Hostel.
You will have experience working within the substance misuse field and support the management and supervision of junior staff. You will oversee and chair team meetings and ensure expert knowledge is provided to staff.
Main duties of the job
- Line manage identified drug and alcohol staff and embed through supervision, the delivery of evidence based interventions provided by the service for drug and alcohol users ensuring that high standards of care are achieved and maintained
- Provide regular supervision - line management, clinical and professional (where appropriate) to Recovery Coordinators and other staff employed within the service
- Perform a full range of management duties including sickness absence management, investigation of complaints and incidents arising within the service, leading on appropriately identified projects and work-streams and providing reports within agreed timescales.
- Support and advise staff in their work with hazardous, harmful and dependent drinkers and drug users
- Lead, with support from the Human Resources department investigations and other processes to successfully resolve disciplinary matters and performance issues, carrying out investigations and involvement in hearings in accordance with relevant Trust policies and procedures
- Deputise in the absence of the Service Manager when required to ensure the effective delivery of services
- Chair appropriate identified meetings within the service, including clinical meetings within both the drug and alcohol services

Drug and alcohol assessments for adults (18+) that include all prescribed, legal, illegal and over the counter medication.
A named recovery coordinator
- Structured psychological interventions on a 1:1 and group basis
- Referral to community based residential rehabilitation programmes
- Assessment for prescribing interventions including stabilisation, detoxification and reduction programmes
- Signposting and advice
- Naloxone and training on how to use it
- Blood borne virus testing (Hep B/C and HIV) and Hep B immunisation
- Peer support groups
- Relapse prevention support

- Maximise the opportunity to deliver a broad range of interventions to drug and alcohol users, who have been assessed as meeting the criteria for the service
- Ensure that all people referred into the services are allocated an assessor within agreed timescales, thus meeting the recognised National waiting times targets.
- Ensure the delivery of evidence based, recovery focussed psycho-social interventions within the service, including full implementation of MI (Motivational Interviewing) and embedding a TIA (Trauma Informed Approach), linking this to the recovery planning process for individuals referred to the service.
- Perform any duties within a) relevant professional body code of conduct (e.g. nursing / social work) b) Trust policies, c) nationally and locally accepted guidelines and standards
- To promote equality, diversity and rights of service users
- Adhere to confidentiality and information sharing protocols at all times.
