Job summary
The Assistant Practitioner or Nurse Associate will function at a high level of competency working under the leadership of the Registered Nurse, they will assume responsibility for their workload. As part of this role you will work as part of a team, delivering health and social care that focuses on the holistic needs of service users.
They will have responsibility for actively participating as part of the Multi Disciplinary Team within the department, to provide a seamless service to patients with proximal supervision from a registered nurse/practitioner.
You will work in support of qualified nurses and allied health professionals within the UTC or MIU setting. Supervision and teaching of junior staff or students will be part of the role.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will work as part of a team, delivering health and social care that focuses on the holistic needs of service users. They will carry out specific clinical tasks and responsibilities as delegated by registered practitioners such as
- Wound toilet
- Wound closure (Steri strips/Glue)
- ECGs
- Assistance with procedures (Suturing, manipulations)
- Application of braces (Black boots, sling, collar and cuff, Plaster of Paris cast, crutches)
- Observations and assistance in triage
- Dressings
- Venepuncture

An exciting opportunities has arisen for Nursing Associates or Assistant Practitioners to join Newton Abbot Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC) as we are expanding our team working across the UTC and minor injury units
The UTC is a busy environment, that supports the local sees a wide variety of patients of all ages with minor injuries and illnesses.We work remotely from the local Emergency Department but have close links to ensure the local communities have a high quality service and are ideally placed to support in alleviate pressures on our Emergency Departments relocating patients from the main hospital site.
As a team we are enthusiastic and committed to supporting education, sharing of knowledge and developing our service.
