Job summary

An opportunity has become available to join our Epilepsy Nurse Team.

We are looking for a nurse with interest and experience in the management of long term conditions ideally Epilepsy/Neurology to take a key role in delivering and developing this established service. The existing team support adults with epilepsy living in Torbay, South Hams and Teignbridge within the community, through outpatient clinics, home visits and telephone clinics.

We work closely with the Neurology Consultants and with GP surgeries. You will be based in a Community Epilepsy Specialist Nurse team in order to deliver the best care possible. In addition, you will be involved in developing and delivering Epilepsy Awareness Training to patients and carers.

You must be driven, possess excellent communication skills, the ability to work both autonomously and in conjunction with the multi-disciplinary teams and have a strong patient focus.

Main duties of the job

o To deliver a specialist epilepsy service across an integrated care organisation of primary, community and secondary care.o The post holder will effectively manage a caseload of patients who have epilepsy with the indirect support and supervision from the ESP and the Neurology team.o The post holder will be expected to facilitate face to face and telephone clinics and to undertake home visits when required.o To work autonomously offering specialist advice to all practitioners across the organisation and including GP's, Midwifery, learning disability, Mental Health, A&E, EAU and Medical wards.o To help develop transition services and to liaise with paediatric services.o To support the development of student nurses.o To participate in the training and education of Epilepsy Awareness and the administration of rescue treatments for patients, carers and healthcare professionals.

About us

The team is warm, approachable, welcoming, and will greatly support new staff during the transition.

We have varying work patterns as we conduct different outpatient and telephone clinics, home visits, epilepsy trainings, and liaising with MDTs during the week, but we will meet once a week for team meeting and referrals.

We also meet our epilepsy consultant neurologist once a week to review patients and their management and to discuss any service updates. Furthermore, the team has a wide support network from Southwest Epilepsy Specialist Nurses and Epilepsy Specialist Nurses Association (ESNA).
