Job summary
We are seeking to recruit an innovative and dynamic consultant ophthalmologist with a special interest in vitreoretinal surgery to join our team at Torbay & South Devon NHS Foundation Trust.
This is a permanent position which has arisen because of resignation of the existing Consultant Vitreoretinal Surgeon wishing to relocate. We are looking for an enthusiastic, competent ophthalmologist with a specialist interest in vitreoretinal surgery. Interested applicants are encouraged to contact the Department to discuss the post and the possibilities for development once in the role.
Main duties of the job
The post is a full time post with specialist vitreo-retinal clinics, laser lists and operating lists including cataract lists. There would be an on-call commitment as well as participation in a separate sub regional vitreoretinal on-call which includes our hospital. Shared office space and secretarial support will be provided for the period of the post.
If the applicant had another sub speciality interest as well as vitreo-retinal diseases, we would be open to accommodate this too.
Patient safety, dignity and care are the highest priority and at the centre of all that we do.
About us
Torbay, often described as the " English Riviera", has 22 miles of coastline around Torquay, Paignton and Brixham, affording opportunities for sailing and water sports, is located 15 miles from Dartmoor's breath-taking moorland, with easy access to Exeter, Plymouth and the M5.
This is an exciting time to join Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust, as it has recently become one of the first vertically integrated health and care organisations in the country (ICO).
We are a highly successful organisation. In 2011 we won the Health Service Journal Acute Hospital of the Year Award and in both 2013 and 2014 we were named in the HSJ's Top 100 Places to Work. In 2015 the Trust was named one of the 40 best performing Trusts in England in the CHKS Top Hospital Award for 2015.
