Job summary
Torbay Pharmaceuticals, also known as TP, are looking for a Starting Materials Technician to join their Quality Control (QC) department.
The role is key to the the Quality Control dept, here at TP and is required to complete sampling, analysing and approval of starting materials and components to ensure suitability prior to use in the manufacture of medicinal products.
To be successful in this role you will need to have previously worked in science based or lab role. You will need to be adaptable to change and enjoy a fast paced environment.
You will be required to work within controlled environments which will involve "gowning up" so you will need to be prepared to wear full PPE and work in confined areas,
Main duties of the job
- Provide functional, analytical and technical support to the Materials and Supplier Quality Section of the Quality Assurance department.
- Final approval of components and licenced materials.
- Dispensing, analysing and approval of materials and components to ensure medicinal products are of suitable quality for direct patient administration.
- Ensure procured materials and components are sampled, analysed and processed in a timely manner with minimal delay from receipt to availability for use within production and manufacturing.
- Ensure the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) holds accurate and current information relating to received goods, to ensure efficient processing and traceability in the event of a product recall.

- NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in a science discipline or relatable employment experience
- Trained in COSHH risk assessments
Desirable
- Trained in the use of lifting equipment. ECDL or equivalent.
- Formal training in the use and interpretation of Pharmacopoeias and statistical AQLs.
Skills, knowledge and Experience
Essential
- General knowledge of laboratory work.
- Knowledge of Laboratory Health and safety and COSHH risk assessments
- Proven relevant experience working within a Quality Control/Quality Assurance team.
- Experience in using specialised computer software systems that control laboratory equipment plus traditional packages such as Word/Excel.
- Experience of working in a wet chemical laboratory, this can be achieved during education.
Desirable
- Experience working in a Pharmaceutical Manufacturing environment.
- Lean six sigma experience
