Job summary

Part Time- Specialist Paediatric Speech and Language Therapist B7 specialising in AAC . Come and join our exciting and dynamic team on this new joint project

We are recruiting an experienced B7 Speech and Language Therapist to join the Children and Family Health Devon Speech and Language Therapy team at an exciting time where innovative practice and cross discipline pathways are being developed and rolled out. The Speech and Language Therapy Service forms part of a wider children and young people's service.

This exciting opportunity is in collaboration with Vranch House to develop and roll out a collaborative and comprehensive package of training and support to settings and families with high technology AAC needs.

You will need

Evidence of relevant CPD maintained in a portfolio including attendance at recent postgraduate courses relevant the area of AAC and/or postgraduate qualification

In depth knowledge of current good practice and recent national research in relation to speech and language therapy

In depth knowledge of child development and an extensive knowledge of children with complex needs

Specialist knowledge of AAC devices, software and apps to include low, mid and high tech resources.

Experience in delivering a range of AAC focussed services across settings

Specialist knowledge and understanding around SEND

Main duties of the job

Work within the designated pathways to support Speech and Language Therapists working across and all other integrated pathways.

Provide specialist SLT assessment, advice and interventions to children, young people and their families and to hold a caseload of children with complex needs to include AAC

Provide case management of an identified caseload of children and young people with highly complex long-term conditions and complex needs by utilising and promoting evidence-based care.

To act as a Clinical Lead across the Torbay, South and West Devon , to lead, plan, co-ordinate and provide a highly specialist speech and language therapy service for paediatric AAC to include assessment, diagnosis, advice, treatment and staff training.

To provide clinical supervision and line management to other Speech and Language Therapists under the leadership of the postholder.

To work alongside colleagues in special schools, specialist community settings, mainstream schools and other community settings offering joint visits and second opinions in the field of paediatric AAC and or early years complex needs

To plan, implement and evaluate highly specialist training courses for speech and language therapists, other professionals from Health, Social Services and Education, including teachers.

The management and organisation of a specific, personal highly specialist caseload, including complex cases, independently as a fully autonomous practitioner.
