Job summary

We are pleased to offer this fantastic opportunity to join our Adult Speech & Language Therapy Department at University Hospitals Bristol & Weston NHS Foundation Trust, on a permanent basis.

We are looking for an Assistant to support us in delivering communication and swallowing management & rehabilitation to adult in-patients with general medical, neurological and age-related conditions. You must be able to work well as part of a team, have effective communication skills and be passionate about providing excellent care to patients and their families living with communication and or swallowing difficulties

Main duties of the job

You will work as part of the wider SLT Adult service, who enjoy a supportive and friendly working environment, where we encourage participation and learning from one another at all times, and for our staff at all stages in their career.

Essential

  • Level 2 Functional skills in Maths and English or equivalent ie GCSE grade C/4 or above
  • One of the following: 3 A levels or Science T level or NVQ level 3/SQCF level 6 or BTEC level 3 national Diploma in health-related subject or level 3 apprenticeship such as the Senior Healthcare Support Worker

Desirable

  • Care Certificate

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working with people from different cultures, religions and ethnic groups, able to demonstrate calm, caring patient manner / attitude (E)
  • Ability to adapt to different situations
  • Previous experience in a healthcare, education or caring role; demonstrating an awareness of NHS healthcare policies and procedures

  • Experience of multiprofessional team working
  • Experience working with people who have communication or swallowing difficulties
