Clinical Fellow (ST1-2) in Paediatric Surgery and Urology
This Clinical Fellow post (CT1-2/ST1-2) is based within the Bristol Royal Hospital for Children, which has one of the largest paediatric General Surgical/Orthopaedic units in the country and is the regional Paediatric Major Trauma Centre for South West England. This post is a 4-12-month appointment, suitable for those interested in Paediatric General Surgery and Orthopaedics.
Main duties of the job
The Department is the regional tertiary referral centre for paediatric surgery and also provides non-specialist surgery for the Bristol conurbation.
Paediatric Surgery, BCH: The work involves care for all children admitted to the Children's hospital including general surgery, oncological and gastrointestinal surgery and urology.
Neonatal Surgery, St Michael's: The work involves the surgical care of infants undergoing surgery, working in co-operation with the neonatologists who staff NICU.
Applicants will be part of a new rota from April-August which will involve doing evening shifts, without nights, initially on a 1-3 rolling rota. From August, this will then change to a whole department rota, consisting of day shifts, twilight shifts and night shifts. They will be expected to participate in departmental audit and research as well as accessing lots of learning opportunities with a daily trauma meeting reviewing acute admissions. There is the possibility to attend trauma clinic and theatre lists. Specialist clinics and fracture clinics run daily.
