Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated Ward Clerk to join our team on our busy Respiratory High Care Unit, C808

We require a Ward Clerk who is able to work 22.5 hours per week (Monday to Wednesday) to help us maintain the smooth and effective running of our busy 24 bedded Respiratory High Care Unit

This is a supportive role, assisting the clinical nursing team and wider MDT to ensure the department runs smoothly.

You will need to be flexible, adaptable and have strong organisational skills. Excellent communication skills are important as you will be liaising with teams throughout the hospital whilst working closely with the MDT, relatives and patients.

Main duties of the job

To liaise with patients, clinical staff, GPs in person, via telephone &email

Show a caring & professional approach towards patients & visitors

Escalate patient queries, capacity problems and general issues to line manager or clinical staff as appropriate

Welcome & assist patients & visitors on arrival & inform appropriate staff.

Ensure that all clinical results & other clinical information are accurately filed

Ensure patient records are appropriately received & transferred in & out of ward

To carry out associated clerical duties, for example, filing , photocopying, distributing post, diary management & scanning

Undertake the role's duties in the case of a major incident in your department

Attend appropriate meetings as required by line manager

Take part in departmental audits & associated duties

Attend training courses

Assist in training of new members of the team

When requested, order stationary & essential items

Check & update patient details on arrival

To review discharge paperwork & book follow-up appointments

Check incoming email inbox's daily to keep up to date with departmental & Trust information
