Sterile Services Technician

Job summary

This is a key role within the Central Sterile Services Department (CSSD) where you will be responsible for undertaking all aspects of the decontamination duties for the safe decontamination of reusable medical devices, contributing to the clinical care of the patient - duties include carrying out the receipt, disassembly, cleaning, reassembly, packing and sterilization of reusable medical devices and recording all tasks in the electronic tracking and tracing database.

The post holder will undertake all on the job training as deemed necessary for them to carry out their duties within the department in a safe manner.

The post holder will be expected to work as part of a team and to communicate effectively.

The post is a shift pattern covering Monday - Friday, Weekends & Bank Holidays, Early's and Lates. No night shift

Main duties of the job

General

o To inspect the cleanliness/correctness of equipment together with checking the items for durability.

o To participate in the packing of surgical instruments, soft packs and comprehensive theatre packs.

o Learning about the safety and operational aspects of machinery used in the departments.

o Any other duties deemed reasonable

Communication and team relationships

o To participate in regular reviews of your own training programme in line with the development of departmental services.

o To identify problems that occurs within CSSD and brings them to the attention of a supervisor.

o Attend training sessions and up-dates that are laid on for departmental staff.

o To participate in problem solving and the management of complaints from all service users.

o To seek advice and guidance from seniors as required.

o To work collaboratively with members of the estates engineering team - especially with regard to downtime of the washers and sterilisers at time of serving and breakdown.

o Attend all staff meetings
