We welcome applications for a substantive consultant post in Paediatric Oncology attracting 10PA. The post holder will join a team of 5 oncology consultants who work within the wider team of consultants delivering paediatric oncology, haematology, stem cell transplant and aftercare services to the South West and beyond. The post is primarily based at the Bristol Royal Hospital for Children (BRHC) but the post holder will liaise closely with colleagues in secondary care in the South West supporting a long established and highly devolved shared care network.
The Bristol Paediatric Haematology/Oncology Service is one of the larger Primary Treatment Centres in the UK and currently receives around 140-150 new referrals per year for childhood malignancy. Most related specialties, including Laboratory Services, Radiotherapy, Paediatric Intensive Care, and particularly Paediatric Neurosurgery are available on site. The role involves rotational weekly attending for paediatric oncology in Bristol, contributing to the supervision of in-patient and day-case care of oncology patients, supporting the shared care network delivering outpatient care and rostered weekend and evening on-call.
Main duties of the job
This is a new role that will deliver both solid & brain tumour work alongside clinics within our Aftercare service; the role will also include responsibility for 1 or more shared care centres in the region. We would welcome a consultant with a solid tumour speciality interest to complement the current interests within our team which include lymphoma, sarcoma, neuro-oncology and aftercare.
Out of hours and weekend work covers both Oncology, Neurooncology, Haematology and BMT. Weekend oncall rota is approximately 1:10 with 1:5 Weekday overnight oncall. All oncalls are non-resident and the consultants are required to be located within the city.
