Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and motivated HR/OD professional to join us. This is a great challenge for the right candidate to make a tangible and lasting contribution to the development and stability of the Trust.

The Deputy HR Business Partner will support our division of Medicine, which employs over 1500 staff across a broad range of department and specialties, including the Emergency Department, Care of the Elderly, Respiratory and Dermatology.

Main duties of the job

  • Support the delivery of the division's organisational development objectives and plans, undertaking specific projects as appropriate;
  • Work with the Leadership, Management and Coaching and Organisational Development team to support and develop managers within the division to carry out their people leadership responsibilities;
  • Be an advocate for improving staff experience and proactively support the delivery of the division's wellbeing and equality, diversity and inclusion programmes of work;
  • Upskill, coach and develop line managers to drive improvement in several key performance areas including management of change, essential training completion, quality appraisal conversations and completion rates, bank and agency reduction, sickness absence;
  • Support the divisional management team and line managers with complex operational, employee relations and workforce issues as they arise, including being the HR representative on hearing panels;
  • Maintaining oversight of all casework in the division, in conjunction with HR Services, assisting with consultations and change management processes as and when required;
  • To support the divisional management team in planning for significant organisational change, e.g. TUPE, redevelopment, service reconfiguration.

  • Educated to degree level or have equivalent level experience
  • Part CIPD qualified, studying for full CIPD or equivalent knowledge and experience

Knowledge and Experience

  • Extensive experience of supporting managers with complex employee relations cases
  • Understanding of TUPE legislation and ability to apply that understanding in practice
  • Sound understanding and practical application of UHBW policies and procedures
  • Current and accurate knowledge of employment legislation
  • Demonstrable evidence of service improvement programmes and ability to facilitate change

  • Sound understanding of NHS Terms and Conditions

  • Ability to work to deadlines and exhibit excellent organisational skills
