Job summary
This is an exciting opportunity to join the University Hospitals Bristol and Weston Health and Safety Department. It is an opportunity to progress and develop within a team of Advisors, making a difference to the overall culture of safety within the Trust. The post holder will have a broad range of H&S legislative knowledge and be a flexible, motivated team player with excellent communication and organisational skills.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will provide competent and up-to-date health and safety advice and guidance to staff and managers on all aspects of health and safety, including legislation, regulations, policies and procedures. The post-holder will demonstrate a well-informed knowledge base of the legislative and regulatory frameworks within the NHS.
Under direction of the Operational Health and Safety Manager the post-holder will also support the Trust Head of Health & Safety Services in implementing health and safety objectives and assist in monitoring of the safety management systems (HSG65).

Essential
- Recognised teaching and assessing qualification e.g. PGCE, Cert Ed, CTLLS, DTLLS. -or equivalent workplace experience
- To maintain own professional development; attending a regular trainer update and complete a development portfolio
- IOSH Managing Safely
- NEBOSH National General certificate or willing to undertake
Desirable
- Professional qualification registration e.g. Nursing/Allied Health Profession (or equivalent relevant experience)
- Member of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health or equivalent
Knowledge and Experience
Essential
- A good understanding of health and safety legislation, regulations and best practice
- Experience of creating and delivering training packages
- Experience of investigating accidents and incidents
- Experience and involvement in risk assessment process
- Experience of reacting to and managing change within the workplace
- Experience of problem solving and the ability to make quick decisions in a pressurised environment
Desirable
- Knowledge of the audit process and experience of involvement in an audit
- Work Experience in a health care setting and knowledge of NHS procedures and structures
- Experience and confidence with a range of patient handling equipment and techniques
