Job summary

Are you a senior trainee in Intensive Care Medicine, having completed Stage 2 training or nearing your CCT? Do you have a passion for delivering high quality care and working in a multiprofessional team? Do you want to gain experience at senior level in a busy tertiary referral ICU in an exciting city-centre hospital while developing your CV and skills?

UHBW Critical Care Department is looking to recruit a post-CCT/ST6+ Senior Fellow to join our Critical Care team. This is a full-time role for six months to one year based in both the General and Cardiac Intensive Care Units with the opportunity to develop your clinical and leadership skills. The units are busy tertiary referral ICUs providing a wide range of different services and based in a thriving city-centre hospital. You will work in a team of other doctors to provide oversight of the whole critical care bed-base with non-resident on-call shifts as part of a partial shift rota pattern. Since April 2022 UHBW has been commissioned as a sixth National SARF/ECMO centre and the post-holder would be exposed to ECMO patients as part of this service which is embedded within the ICU.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for a hard-working, self-motivated and organised doctor who wants to increase their experience in a tertiary ICU environment while developing their own career to facilitate their application for a consultant post. You need to be able to work on our Advanced Non-Resident rota and have GMC registration with a licence to practice.

In addition to the clinical experience and training there are opportunities to develop projects and skills in numerous areas, including Critical Care Echocardiography, ECMO and Severe Acute Respiratory Failure, Simulation Facilitation and Education, Clinical Research, Quality Improvement and Leadership & Management. 20% of the role is non-clinical and this will allow time for a project to be developed with the support and mentorship of members of the Consultant group. Funding may be available to support candidates who seek to pursue qualifications in research, education, management or other areas
