Job summary

We are looking for an experienced Head of Security to join our Facilities Management Team. Reporting to the General Manager, the Head of Security will be responsible for developing and maintaining a safe and secure environment to allow the provision of world-class healthcare.

The ideal candidate will have:-

  • Experience of receiving and investigating incident reports to identify root causes, ensuring suitable remedial action is taken
  • In depth knowledge and significant experience of security, criminal and civil related law enforcement especially relating to protection ofpeople and property
  • Experience in operational management of in-house security team and the provision of suitable manning levels
  • Education to Degree level or equivalent experience in Police or senior security management role
  • Excellent understanding of risk management as applied to health, safety & security and clinical risk

Main duties of the job

No two days will be the same, however typical tasks will include:-

  • Managing the workload and performance of our in-house Security Officers and management of all security contracts both for staffresources & service contracts
  • Providing security advice, some of it of a specialist nature to the Trust assuring the provision of an effective and high quality securityservice for staff, patients & visitors.
  • Implementing national security policies, ensuring organisational compliance
  • Assisting with the development and implementation of a clear security strategy for the Trust and for internal and external stakeholders
  • Having budgetary responsibility and control for all areas of security including all pay, non-pay and contract related budgets

Desirable

  • NHS Local Security Management Specialist qualification

Skills

Essential

  • Detailed knowledge of other relevant current legislation/ guidance and associated statutory requirements.
  • Excellent understanding of risk management as applied to health, safety & security and clinical risk
  • Ability to influence senior managers, clinical staff and communicate effectively at all levels both in written and oral forms.
  • Able to work outside of office hours and contribute to on-call rota
  • Ability to analyse and present highly complex information in a clear and concise reports

  • Working knowledge of a wide range of NHS/Department of Health policies, procedures and practices

Experience

  • Proven experience of developing and maintaining a number of security related policies, procedures and guidance documentation.
  • Extensive experience of preparation of periodic reports and business cases
  • Knowledge and expertise in CCTV and BWV management, review and further development
  • Knowledge and expertise in access control management and the development and integration into a building management system

Desirable

  • Demonstrable experience of NHS or corporate security management.
  • Knowledge of incident and risk management system such as DATIX.
  • Knowledge of the Secretary of State Directions on security management and the protection of NHS staff from violence and abuse, and the related supporting documentation.
  • Experience and knowledge of working within a Safeguarding and Clinical environment and the liaison with Safeguarding and Clinical teams
