Job summary
We are inviting applications from experienced, motivated and enthusiastic candidates to join our exceptional team within Laboratory Medicine at the Bristol Royal Infirmary site. You will work closely with Biomedical Scientists, Healthcare Scientists, Medical Laboratory Assistants and other Associate Practitioners and apply your knowledge by performing a range of automated, semi-automated and manual techniques.
The post holder will be required to rotate throughout different sections of the Laboratory.

The working pattern in this role is rota based. Therefore your contracted hours of 37.5 per week (full time working equivalent) will be calculated across a rota period of 13 weeks in accordance with agenda for change. Dependant on the needs of the service, your total working hours will fluctuate due to the different length of time of the shifts, however as part of rota management your shifts will balance to be within your contracted time.
Main duties of the job
- Under indirect supervision, perform manual, semi-automated and fully automated laboratory investigations accurately and efficiently.
- Participate in the day to day management of stock control, records and monitor usage to ensure efficient use where appropriate.
- Perform basic troubleshooting in line with established protocols and report any faults to a Healthcare Scientist.
- Contribute to the management of the Laboratory quality management system (QMS)
- Communicate with colleagues and clinicians about test results and provides instruction to groups of health service staff, as appropriate.
- Prioritise own workload and that of others as and when required.
- Supervise, organise and allocate work for less experienced staff when required in own area.
