Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity to work at the heart of a dynamic team of Echocardiographers based at the Bristol Heart Institute.

The main duties include supporting Echocardiographers/Cardiologists to meet patient needs, helping to prepare patients for theirs echoes, liaising with patients and other healthcare professionals, and offering administrational support.

An Echocardiographic Assistant should have good interpersonal skills, a knowledge of IT systems, and be a compassionate individual ready to form an integral part of a busy clinical team.

The Echocardiographic Assistant will continue to progress, through the development of further skills, knowledge and competencies.

Good communication skills are essential, as well as empathetic approach to both patients and their relatives. You will work with the multidisciplinary team to ensure that the patients of Bristol experience a high standard of service and a good patient journey. Previous experience of working in the NHS would be an advantage.

Main duties of the job

  • To assist the Echocardiographers and the Echo administrative staff with all working practices to ensure an efficient standard of service is maintained.
  • Assist the Echocardiographers by providing a high standard of patient care before during and after the echoin accordance with instructions and training received.
  • Maintain effective communication with patients, relatives and members of the Multidisciplinary team regarding all aspects of care demonstrating a range of appropriate communication skills. Deal with enquiries and taking action, where appropriate, and passing information promptly to the appropriate member of staff.
  • Maintaining accurate computer data and filing.

Essential

  • Basic Life Support certificate

Desirable

  • Good Standard of Education, Maths and English GCSE (or equivalent)
  • NVQ Certificate or Diploma in Health and Social Care (or equivalent)
  • SCST Certificate in ECG

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • Experience of dealing with patients and the general public
  • Experience of manual handling and patient transfer

Desirable

  • Previous experience as an HCA or from a healthcare background
  • Experience in performing basic cardiovascular diagnostics (i.e. ECG, BP and SPO2 readings)

Skills and Abilities

Essential

  • Understanding of the healthcare setting and patient care
  • Effective interpersonal, organisational and communication skills
  • Good keyboard, IT skills and telephone skills
  • Ability to manage own workload
  • Physically able to manually handle patients and perform wheelchair and bed transfers

Desirable

  • Familiar with the use of Epic EPR and Radiology CRIS systems
