Job summary

Psychological Health Services is looking for enthusiastic, ambitious and professional Assistant Psychologists to join the team. The post holders will be eligible for membership of the British Psychological Society at Graduate Basis for Registration having achieved either a 2:1 honours degree, or higher, in psychology or having completed a British Psychological Society accredited psychology conversion course. We strongly encourage applications from psychologists from groups under-represented within psychological professions.

The minimum salary advertised is for band 5 roles not band 4 development roles, which are remunerated at band 4.

Main duties of the job

Roles will vary, but may have elements of patient engagement, neuropsychological assessment and supporting practitioner psychologists working in paediatric, adult, and staff support services. Multi Disciplinary working in a range patient settings may be asked of you. Those Assistant Psychologists working within the CYP Gender Service will be required to contribute to patient engagement and hold a case load under supervision, along side Engagement Support Workers, Youth Workers and the Coordination and Engagement Manager. Research functions and standardised testing will also be key tasks.

Knowlwdge and Experience

  • Relevant experience working/ volunteering in health, care or education settings with children or adults.
  • To have experience of / be comfortable and confident communicating with individuals from a range of cultural backgrounds, including those who do not speak English as a first language
  • High level of computer literacy and be familiar and competent in the use of word processing, database, power point and statistical packages for the social sciences, including Microsoft Excel and SPSS

Desirable

  • Relevant experience working in research
  • Experience of using qualitative interviewing methods
  • Experience of working within multidisciplinary teams

Aptitude

Essential

  • Ability to quickly learn and assimilate new skills and knowledge, so that they can be relied upon to carry out technical and basic clinical tasks effectively, without direct supervision once training is complete
  • Interest and motivation to work in clinical psychology and/or neuropsychology
  • Good observational skills in order to note and record relevant behavioural data that may have an impact on interpretation of test data
