Job summary
A unique opportunity has arisen for an experienced stoma care nurse specialist, who has a prescribing qualification (or who is working towards this) to join the excellent, award-winning stoma care team at UHBW.
This post will form a significant part of a new project in the delivery of a nurse-led stoma care service whereby stoma care patients will receive their prescriptions for ostomy products from the nursing service.
The post holder will work 18.75 hours and will be predominantly based at Bristol Royal Infirmary but will run the service, in conjunction with the lead nurse, for all ostomates in the UHBW catchment.
Applications for this post are invited from nurses who are experienced in stoma care. We are looking for an individual who is flexible, dynamic, self-motivated and reliable. You should uphold excellent communication skills and enjoy working as part of a team. You will play an active part in clinical practice, education, research/audit and the implementation of national guidelines as well as be a key proponent in the delivery of this new service.
Main duties of the job
The role will involve the clinical assessment of patients, at various stages of their stoma care journey, and the selection, prescription and evaluation of product effectiveness. The post holder will run clinics, both face to face and telephone, prescribe items, negotiate complex product assessments and deliver high quality, evidence-based ostomy care and prescriptions.
As an experienced stoma care nurse specialist, the post holder will be an active member of the multi-disciplinary team, working collaboratively with colorectal surgeons, oncologists, palliative care team, primary care, prescriptions coordinators and ICB colleagues, as well as a link to other teams within the hospital and community.
