Job summary
The post holder will be working as an Endocrine Specialist Nurse primarily in an outpatient setting, but they may be required to see inpatients on occasion for education purposes. They will work closely with other endocrine specialist nurses and the wider multidisciplinary team to deliver exceptional care, support, education and condition management to patients, their carers and family, for a variety of endocrine conditions.
The post holder will also participate in endocrine MDT meetings and nurse led clinics. They will utilize skills of clinical expertise to teach and supervise junior member on the team.
Main duties of the job
- To provide education and support to patients, their relatives and carers with a variety of endocrine conditions, through nurse led clinics, and adhoc telephone/email enquiries.
- Responsible for completing dynamic function tests safely within local and national guidelines and protocols.
- Communicating and liaising with the multidisciplinary team to ensure seamless and timely high quality care provision to patients
- To administer specialist endocrine mediations to patients e.g. somatostatin analogues, testosterone injections.
- Teach patients, their relatives or carers how to administer specialist endocrine medications e.g. emergency Hydrocortisone injections, growth hormone injections, testosterone gel. Providing patient reviews and updates to the teaching as required.
- Liaising with other Trusts where endocrine surgery is completed off site to ensure seamless transition of care between the two Trusts, ensuring relevant patient follow-up is booked to prevent delay to care management
- The post holder will be responsible for a caseload combining high-level assessment, advanced endocrine specialist knowledge, initiating endocrine treatments, and appropriately leading the co-ordination of patient care.
