Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and enthusiastic band 6 Infection Prevention and Control Specialist Nurse to join the Infection Prevention and Control Team. This is a development post which can lead to you gaining a formal infection prevention and control qualification if you do not already have one. You will be primarily based on the Bristol location but will work across both Bristol and Weston sites to improve infection prevention and control practice and reduce hospital acquired infections. Although this post will have a focus on paediatric and women's divisions, you will also be required to offer expertise infection prevention and control advice to adult services. You will support the Lead Infection Prevention and Control Nurse in delivering the infection control agenda at a local level. You must have a passion for patient safety and the infection prevention and control agenda.

You will support the provision of infection prevention and control advice and education to the Trust and support the team in managing key infection control improvement initiatives. You will be a key member of the team providing a clinically knowledgeable and responsive service. You will develop skills in managing change and will demonstrate excellent interpersonal abilities.

This is a fantastic opportunity to work and develop in a small team within a multiple speciality acute healthcare setting caring for paediatrics and adults.

Main duties of the job

Communication:

Work collaboratively as part of the multidisciplinary team providing specialist advice and support whilst maintaining effective lines of communication.

Communicate with other organisations i.e. United Kingdom Health Security Agency, Clinical Commissioning Groups etc. in accordance with good infection prevention and control practice.

Communicates highly sensitive, complex, and sometimes distressing condition related information demonstrating empathy and providing reassurance to patients, relatives and staff.

Patient Care:

Act as a credible role model to all clinical and support staff to support the effective provision of Infection Prevention and Control practices across the Trust.

Assess and interpret patient's infection control status/risk and other patient conditions taking appropriate action and care planning.

Assess, plan and implement clinical care in line with own competence and confidence, supporting patients as required.

Work with clinical staff across the organisation supporting practice and providing specialist advice to ensure high standards of infection prevention and control practice are embedded.

Maintains clear, accurate and up-to-date patient records in line with professional standards and Trust guidance/policy.

Provide clinical support during outbreaks of infection or contamination events. In some circumstances duties may be required outside of normal working hours to effectively manage these.
