Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Myeloma Team as a Band 6 Clinical Nurse Specialist.

You will need to be confident, have excellent clinical skills, knowledge, expertise and understanding of caring for patients with haematological malignancies. You will have excellent communication and organisational skills, be flexible and self-motivated to deliver high standards of care.

Based at the Bristol Haematology and Oncology Centre, in this part-time role you would work closely as part of an established Myeloma Clinical Nurse Specialist.

The role involves

  • Supporting patients and their families/carers through their myeloma journey.
  • Meeting patients at referral, supporting them through the diagnosis, treatment and beyond.
  • Educating and assisting other healthcare providers about the needs of myeloma
  • Developing the Myeloma Service to meet any changing patient needs.

This group of patients have a remitting/relapsing disease so they often are under our care for many years, which gives us a unique opportunity to develop long-term relationships with them and their families and to aid them to live with this illness.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated CNS to join the myeloma team. If you have experience in the haemato-oncology setting and want a new challenge the band 6 role is a great way to develop your skills. You will work alongside the Band 7 CNS to support patients, gradually becoming more autonomous. As part of your development you will be expected to become involved in many aspects of the service such as pathway improvement projects, audit and teaching, as well as undertaking personal education.
