Job summary
We are hoping to recruit a dynamic and conscientious nurse, with recent experience of caring for patients with or at risk of arrhythmias to work in the Arrhythmia and Inherited Cardiac Conditions (ICC) team within the Bristol Heart Institute.
They will have a good understanding of ECGs, arrhythmias and inherited conditions associated with arrhythmias. The nurse will have undertaken relevant post graduate education and be willing to undertake further study that may be required for this role. We are looking for a candidate who possess excellent communication and organisational skills and is able to work both independently and as part of a team.
The trainee enhanced practitioner role involves working closely with the electrophysiology team in order to support and facilitate the management of patients with or at risk of developing arrhythmias. The service includes comprehensive pre-operative assessment and follow-up clinics for patients undergoing ablation procedures, nurse-led drug challenges and clinics for inherited cardiac conditions. The service also runs a busy telephone/email advice line, where the post holder would be expected to triage queries and respond in a timely manner as appropriate. We aim to ensure the delivery of a consistently high quality and compassionate service to this patient group.
Main duties of the job
- Maintain standards and practice in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct, national guidelines and local Trust policies, procedures and guidelines
- Act as an expert clinical resource in the management of people with arrhythmias for all healthcare professionals within UHBW, other acute Trusts, Primary Care Trusts and the Cardiac Network
- Liase with patients, consultants and primary care services to initiate and monitor medications subject to shared care protocols
- To provide specialist arrhythmia nursing advice and support system for patients and their families with or without an inherited cardiac condition from the time of diagnosis and throughout treatment, assessing each patient and/ or family member for specific psychological needs, linking them to relevant ongoing sources of support e.g. support groups, psychologist, and social services
- Partake in nurse-led provocation/diagnostic tests under supervision of Band 7 colleagues
- Deliver Electrophysiology and Cardiac Device related pre-assessment alongside Band 6 colleague and outpatient department
- To work alongside Band 6 & TNA colleague to deliver early specialist assessment of cardiac device wounds and sites
