Job summary
UHBW are delighted to offer the opportunity of a fixed term/secondment for a qualified Advanced Practitioner (AP) to work within Acute Medicine. You will be based in the Acute Medicine Department providing high quality clinical care for Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC), Acute Medicine Clinic (AMC) and the Acute Medical Unit (AMU). You will join a small team of Acute Medicine APs and tAPs and work collaborately alongside the medical team. We are looking for someone who is enthusiatic, hard working and who can work well across the Multi Disiplinary Team (MDT). Ideally, you will have significant experience in Advanced Practice.
Main duties of the job
Duties will involve delivering ambulatory type care to patients under the care of the medical team. The Medical SDEC unit acts as an extension of the Medical Take, with its own designated nursing team and Acute Medicine consultant. Some flexibility will be required during times of peak patient activity in covering other areas of Acute Medicine, e.g. AMU. Clinical supervision will be provided by the Acute Medicine consultants.
You will be required to provide senior decision making in acute medical settings, e.g. SDEC. This will inlcude history taking, examination skills, diagnostic testing and interpretation, onward referrals and discharging patients home. You will be expected to work autonomously, within a clear scope of practice, and with Acute Medical Consultant oversight. You will be confident in assessing, resuscitating and stabilising acutely sick patients. Ideally, you will be competent in a range of clinical skills such as, but not limited to; cannulation (with ultrasound if needed), catheterisation, arterial blood gases, lumbar punctures, ascitic taps, ascitic drains, pleural taps and pleural drains.
