Job summary

Bristol Royal Hospital for Children (BRHC) is pleased to offer a clinical fellowship in Paediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes with the South-West regional specialist Paediatric Endocrinology service and large Bristol and Weston Paediatric Diabetes team. The post holder will gain a breadth of experience principally in general Endocrinology and Diabetes with experience in Outpatients and Day cases. Also experience of more specialist areas of diabetes and complex obesity, and differences in sex development (DSD), late effects and metabolic bone problems as they are managed in the department. University Hospitals Bristol and Weston (UHBW) is a recognised Centre of Excellence.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be expected to take part in regular timetabled diabetes clinics, and regular sessions overseeing and assisting with patient reviews and the dynamic endocrine function tests on the clinical investigations unit (CIU) which will involve interpreting investigation results and formulating clinical plans and presenting these at the weekly team clinical meeting. It is expected that the post holder is competent in practical paediatric procedural skills such as intravenous cannulation and providing Paediatric life support. The post holder will also be expected to participate in governance activities such as audit and quality improvement projects or guideline development. There will be opportunities to get a wide range of experience in the outpatient clinics-both in general Endocrinology and Diabetes and observing and participating in MDT work in the subspecialist areas of Endocrinology.

The post holder will be encouraged to undertake a Quality Improvement or Research project.

  • Full GMC registration with license to practice
  • At least 3 years' experience in Paediatrics
  • Up to date with Paediatric Life Support
