Job summary
- Accountable for the direct delivery of the Newborn Hearing Screening Programme (NHSP) for all babies born in the Avon area and to ensure that the NHSP runs efficiently and effectively in line with national and local screening protocols and guidelines.
- To ensure that all national coverage, KPIs and referral targets with respect to the patient pathway through each stage of the screening programme and targets around referral into paediatric audiology and the age of diagnosis of deafness are met.
- Ensuring that any child with risk factors is identified for audiological follow-up
- Ensuring that all babies, where screening is contra-indicated are referred directly into audiology for diagnostic testing.
Main duties of the job
To manage, and/or assist the local manager in all aspects of the Avon Newborn Hearing Screening Programme (NHSP) within University Hospitals Bristol (UHB) Foundation NHS Trust, North Bristol Trust (NBT) and Weston Area Health Trust (WHAT) in conjunction with the Team Leader of NHSP.
To deputise for the NHSP local manager in their absence following agreed processes for decision making, and to maintain the daily tasks required to ensure the business continuity of the NHSP screening service.
To perform hearing screening of newborn babies in their homes, hospital and clinic locations, adhering to local and national standards and protocols.
To carry out data management responsibilities including;
- identification of babies eligible for screening to ensure coverage targets are met
- offering screening to parents and arranging appointments/onward referrals to audiology
- prompt and accurate data entry and screening quality monitoring
- ensure audits and failsafe's are carried out on a weekly/monthly basis
- ensuring standard operating procedures are up to date and renewed as required.
