Job summary

Are you a proactive, non-judgemental nurse, committed to working in contraception and sexual health services? If so, Unity Sexual Health is looking for an experienced sexual health nurse to work for 3.5 hours per week at our Lawrence Weston young people's clinic.

We are looking for someone with a passion for providing high quality care for young people.

Main duties of the job

Unity Sexual Health is a busy, dynamic clinical environment providing integrated sexual health services.

  • You will be part of a multidisciplinary team, but also be working as an independent practitioner.
  • You will work with a diverse patient group, providing contraception and sexual health services.
  • You will help to lead the team and co-ordinate clinics.
  • You will have robust experience of safeguarding.

You will be a nurse with relevant post qualification experience in contraception and sexual health services.

You will put patients at the heart of your practice; be able to work effectively and safely under pressure; have excellent organisational and management skills.

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • Appropriate post registration experience in sexual health / contraception
  • Appropriate proven leadership and management experience
  • Experience of working with a variety of age groups, genders, sexualities and ethnicities
  • Evidence of commitment to research based practice or evidence of project work undertaken

Desirable

  • Experience of undertaking research or audit
  • Experience as preceptor / mentor and in providing teaching

Skills and Abilities

Essential

  • Organisation and management skills
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and problem solve
  • Competency in medication administration and management including vaccines and IM injections
  • Ability to work autonomously or as part of a team
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Able to manage difficult and stressful situations
  • Able to act as a role model and as a mentor/assessor
  • Good IT skills (Inc Word, Excel and Powerpoint) and experience using EPR systems
  • Willingness work flexibly with needs of changing service
  • Ability to cope with physical demands of the role

  • Ability to undertake advanced nursing procedures and tasks

Qualifications and Training

  • Active 1st level registration with NMC
  • Relevant training in sexual health and / or contraception
  • Qualification in teaching, assessing and mentoring

  • Willingness to work towards Masters level academic study
  • Has letter of competence for SDI fitting, or is willing to work towards depending on service need
