Job summary
We are looking for a motivated and passionate individual to take on the role of speciality doctor in sexual offences medicine (adults and young people), within The Bridge SARC, Bristol. The Bridge SARC looks after adult complainants of rape and sexual assault in the area covered by the Avon & Somerset Police, and, children and young people of all ages who have experienced sexual abuse in the wider geographical region including Swindon, Gloucestershire and Wiltshire.
We are looking for an innovative and dynamic speciality doctor to work as part of a small committed team caring for complainants of rape and sexual assault, whilst contributing to the evolution of this service. This role is for 2 PA's per week (20% full time), with the potential to increase to 4 PA's per week, and will include on call cover pro rata of some evenings and weekends, which can be worked from home
Main duties of the job
The post will be based in the Bridge Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC), Central health centre, Tower Hill, Bristol.
The post holder will undergo a period of in depth training to provide "acute" examinations of adults, and young people (16-18 years old) who may have been subject to sexual abuse or assault. Examinations will be supported by a crisis worker.
Where appropriate a joint examination with another doctor (a paediatrician or forensic physician), or forensic nurse examiner with complementary skills will be performed.
The medical examinations will be undertaken at The Bridge SARC Centre of Excellence, Bristol; however, there may be times when the post-holder is required to attend other sites to perform medical examinations, for example, hospitals.
The post-holder will provide "on-call" services Saturday/Sunday for 12 hours (Pro Rata) each day (times to be confirmed) during which they will attend "acute" medical examinations as required.
Whilst providing services, the post-holder will also provide telephone support and advice to professionals from partner agencies including police, social care and other health care professionals. This will include participating in strategy meetings/discussions and contributing to child protection processes as required.
There will be an expectation to attend medical examinations out-of-hours or overnight, only if appropriate.
