Job summary
An exciting opportunity to join the Dietetic team at Bristol Royal Hospital for Children in the post of Specialist Paediatric Dietitian for Neonatology. The Specialist Paediatric Dietitian provides an expert dietetic service for the Neonatal Unit and will work together with the Lead Neonatal Dietitian for this service. The Regional Neonatal Unit at St Michael's Hospital in Bristol is a Level 3 Surgical Unit with 31 cots. Our NICU provides a mix of intensive care, high dependency and special care facilities to babies that need extra care from birth to approximately four weeks post term. We are a specialist referral centre for neonatal surgery and cardiology and admit many babies from all over the South West, South Wales and occasionally further afield.
The Specialist Paediatric Dietitian is a valuable member of a multidisciplinary team working closely with Consultant Neonatologists, pharmacist, staff nurses, other AHPs such as SLT, OT and physio. The Specialist Dietitian also provides support and leadership to the Neonatal Outreach team and monthly outpatient clinics.
The Specialist Paediatric Dietitian also undertakes any other reasonable duties, which may be identified in consultation with the Head of Paediatric Dietetics.
Main duties of the job
The Specialist Paediatric Dietitian will provide a comprehensive specialised dietetic service on the neonatal unit, which includes relevant education and or training to all healthcare professionals, carers and other workers involved in the care of neonates.
The Specialist Paediatric Dietitian will contribute to all relevant activities involved in this, e.g., ward rounds, outpatient clinics, training for other healthcare and patient groups, meetings, audit and research. They will also take the lead to develop and update nutritional guidelines, standards of practice and patient information booklets. The Specialist Paediatric Dietitian will be committed to the maintenance of personal specialist expertise, which is current, relevant and accessible.
