Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to cover a maternity leave for a band 3 Physiotherapy technician the adult aquatic physiotherapy team at the hydrotherapy unit at Bristol Royal Infirmary. This is a 0.5 WTE, fixed term post covering maternity leave for a minimum of 9 months.

The pool is used by the musculoskeletal physiotherapy teams, treating acute and chronic conditions. The post holder will have ideally worked in a therapeutic environment with a background of clinical experience. Aquatic physiotherapy treatment is carried out in the pool, the successful candidate will need to be confident in water.

The physiotherapy technician will work alongside qualified physiotherapists, with patients on a one to one basis and in group format, implementing specific and agreed treatment programmes for patients to improve their function. In line with the physiotherapist's treatment plan the post holder will need to be creative; adapting exercises, activities and games to promote improvements in function and achieve patient goals.

The post holder will be flexible to meet the changing needs of the caseload and service, naturally empathetic, demonstrating good communication skills to facilitate close working relationships with both service users and staff.

In-service training programmes and staff appraisal systems are in operation to help you develop to meet the demands of the post. We actively support continued professional development.

Main duties of the job

The physiotherapy technician will work alongside qualified physiotherapists, with patients on a one to one basis and in group format, implementing specific and agreed treatment programmes for patients to improve their function. In line with the physiotherapist's treatment plan the post holder will need to be creative; adapting exercises, activities and games to promote improvements in function and achieve patient goals.

The post holder will be responsible for setting up and closing down of the pool and includes general maintenance and cleanliness of the department including administrative tasks for both the hydrotherapy and outpatient therapy department. They will be able to multi-task and be flexible with changing daily demands in the department.

They will possess good written communication skills in order to document treatments in patient records, and be computer literate using hospital based computer systems for recording data, statistics and managing patient bookings.
