Job summary
As a skilled independent practitioner undertake clinical duties in the Early Pregnancy Assessment Units based at St. Michael's and Weston General Hospital.
Working across professional boundaries in collaboration with colleagues, members of the multi-disciplinary team to provide a high standard of patient care
Provide a high quality, efficient service and demonstrate clinical expertise in Early Pregnancy.
Assess, diagnose and provide appropriate management, patient information and follow up, in line with local protocols and NICE guidelines.
You will work as part of a weekend rota at St. Michael's.
We also have a second post available that is 15 hours per week.
Main duties of the job
- Work as an independent practitioner in the Early Pregnancy Assessment Clinic within Gynaecology at St. Michael's and Weston General Hospital
- To review urgent patients referred, to provide skilled assessment of women who present with pain and bleeding in early pregnancy, including history taking, physical assessment and requesting, and acting on appropriate tests and investigations in a timely manner.
- Demonstrate specialist knowledge in the early pregnancy setting relating to diagnosis of miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy and Hyperemesis providing evidence based information to staff and patients.
- Use judgement skills as to when to discuss unusual or questionable cases/ scan findings with advanced midwife/ nurse practitioner/ senior registrar
- Use skills and judgement in diagnostic reasoning and refer/escalate accordingly
- To undertake extended scope of Professional Practice roles including: vaginal and abdominal examination, venepuncture, cannulation
- Plan, prioritise and assist with day to day organisation of workload, triage referrals and ensure a good throughput of patients is
- achieved maximising capacity to meet demand for the service.
- Communicate and liaise with patients, clinicians, other healthcare professionals and representatives as part of a multidisciplinary team, in an effective manner to ensure an efficient service.
- Provide a specialist informative telephone service
