Vascular Access Nurse

Information:

This job is now closed

Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and experienced nurse with excellent cannulation and phlebotomy skills to join the IV access team. Once trained the role will involve working across sites between Bristol and Weston inserting.

Midlines and Peripherally Inserted Central Catheters (PICCs) using ultrasound and (in the case of PICCs) NICE endorsed new technology that confirms line tip placement in patients requiring long-term intravenous access.

The role requires autonomous practice, assessing suitability of referrals, inserting lines, following up the patients, audit of the service and teaching nurses on the wards/within the team.

The work will be mobile, occurring at patient's bedsides and in procedure rooms about the hospital.

Main duties of the job

The role will include accessing patients for the most appropriate vascular access device and placing cannulas, midlines and peripheral inserted central catheters as appropriate.

Training and support will be given but it would be an advantage to have previous experience using ultrasound and placing PICC's and Midlines.

As well as working clinically you will also be involved in the trust teaching programme and support nurses in both inpatients and outpatients areas in teaching the care of PICC's and midlines.

The vascular access team is well established covering all areas across the Bristol sites. However this is an exciting opportunity as we extend our service into Weston General hospital. You will work across both sites, sharing in the rotation between both Bristol and Weston ensuring that the same high standard of care is maintained within all wards.

Initially this will be a 6 month post with a plan to extend into a permanent post once established.
