We are currently seeking applications for a Band 8a Physiotherapy Pathway Lead in Respiratory Medicine.
Main duties of the job
This post offers the opportunity to deliver operational management for a large team of Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists, service development, and clinical leadership whilst maintaining a clinical role.
You would be responsible for supporting the Acute Medical Respiratory in-patients, Respiratory out-patients, Home Ventilation and Bristol Adult Cystic Fibrosis services.
The post will:
- Primarily be based in Bristol Royal Infirmary but may require occasional visits to Weston General Hospital.
- Work closely with the Divisional Head of Therapies, the pathway lead will provide clinical leadership and expertise to the integrated team supporting the respiratory medicine pathway across the Bristol Royal Infirmary (BRI).
- They will be the operational line manager for the respiratory pathway teams which include acute respiratory medicine; respiratory outpatients; home ventilation service and the Bristol Cystic Fibrosis service.
- They will drive service improvement, innovation and staff skill and knowledge acquisition for the benefit of patients within the pathway.
- They will seek opportunities to continuously develop the service in this clinical area to always ensure the delivery of patient-centred care.

- oVaried clinical experience at both band 5 and band 6 level with experience in managing Respiratory patients in a variety of clinical settings
- oSignificant clinical knowledge and clinical experience, at a senior level within a Respiratory pathway, in a secondary care setting
- oUp-to-date knowledge base to ensure the delivery of evidence-based practice along with innovative therapy provision within Respiratory pathways
- oKnowledge of leadership styles and experience in leading teams
- oExperience in the day-to-day management of staff including addressing issues such as absence and performance
- oExperience of recruiting, interviewing & appointing staff
- oExperience in the induction, monitoring & the supervision of staff
- oExperience as a student placement educator
- oExperience in using audit as part of service development
- oA commitment and drive for professional development of self and that of the team
- oA leadership style that can be quickly adapted into a variety of different situations and matches the needs of the individual or team
- oA credible & mature attitude that is recognised & respected by other staff
- oHighly skilled in managing Respiratory patients, including those with complex presentations, to ensure optimum management and rehabilitation strategies and plans are put in place

- oAble to demonstrate effective team-working skills to achieve better patient outcomes
- oAble to demonstrate clinical & professional leadership skills e.g. in the development & implementation of practice standards and service development initiatives
