Job summary

  • Work to set standards & protocols, functioning in accordance with best practice and in a manner that meets professional, departmental and legal standards and requirements
  • Able to perform a wide range of CT protocols.
  • Assist in more complex CT examinations under the supervision of senior staff.
  • Take part in the provision of a 24-hour CT and radiographic service.
  • Organise the efficient control of workflow patterns within the department when acting as a senior of the day, if required.
  • Proven ability to perform as part of a team.
  • Able to organise own workload and that of junior staff.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide a CT service to the Trust, by producing high quality images.
  • To participate in the CT out of hour's service.
  • To have expert knowledge with CRIS and PACS.

Qualifications and Training

Essential

  • BSc Radiography or DCR or other recognised equivalent radiography qualification
  • Registration with HCPC

Desirable

  • Work towards or hold Post Graduate cross sectional qualification

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • Minimum of 2 years' experience of NHS general and trauma plain film imaging, with knowledge of a wide variety of all imaging techniques
  • Experience of cross sectional imaging, CT essential
  • H&S regulations relating to radiation protection (including IRMER regulations)
  • CT knowledge

Desirable

  • Knowledge of the Radiology Information System, and ability to use it to access and alter patient and examination data

Skills and Abilities

Essential

  • Computer skills for patient data and image manipulation for digital modalities
  • Manual handling and basic resuscitation
  • Contrast use and emergency procedures
  • Ability to prioritise workflow through imaging rooms according to clinical needs of patients and to prioritise the needs of different hospital areas
  • Ability to prioritise different categories of patients
  • Ability to prioritise work of assistants and students
  • PC skills, image appreciation (visual recognition of contrast, sharpness, resolution), ability to estimate distances accurately
  • Cannulation skills
