Main duties of the job
ECMO is delivered on A600 - General Intensive Care Unit at UHBW.
The ECMO pumpside ENS is accountable for twenty-four-hour care delivery and management of patients receiving ECMO, this involves working Long Day and Night shifts over 7 days of the week.
There will be a requirement to work with highly infectious patients and it istherefore a necessity to comply with infection prevention and control guidance.
In the ECMO retrieval role the post holder will be required to undertake patient retrievals, working offsite to assess and manage critically ill patients in conjunction with the ECMO MDT. You will work as part of a theatre team (onsite & offsite) to assist in ECMO cannulation. Due to the unpredictability in the timings of referrals an ECMO retrieval can result in a shift over-run, the ECMO coordinator and ECMO medic will work to mitigate these whenever possible.
The ENS will need to develop close working relationships with ECMO Clinical Lead, Medical Team, Lead Perfusionist and team, Pharmacist, AHP, the GICU medical and nursing teams, clinical teams across the critical care units and key external partners.
