BAND 6 Paediatric Diabetes Specialist Nurse (PDSN)
1 WTE, 37.5 hours per week over 5 days
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated individual to join our busy, progressive and supportive Paediatric Diabetes Specialist Nurse Team.
The Paediatric Diabetes Nursing team currently care for over 500 children in the region, with around 100 of these patients living in Weston / North Somerset. We support various ways of managing diabetes, including injections, insulin pump therapy and continuous glucose monitors.
The post's primary base will be Weston General hospital as part of the smaller PDSN team that support the Weston and North Somerset patients but include occasional working at Bristol Royal Hospital for Children. The post holder will hold a caseload of patients who are in the catchment area of Weston / North Somerset. The role includes a remit of work within the community, including home and school visits as well as clinics at Weston General Hospital. We work as part of the wider Paediatric Diabetes Nursing team who are based at Bristol Children's Hospital, and we support with newly diagnosed and inpatient care 2 - 3 working days per month. The role also includes training Seashore centre staff at Weston and at BRCH who care for children with Diabetes.
Main duties of the job
Working in a fast paced environment, the successful applicant will be required to demonstrate:
Excellent communication skills
A sound knowledge of paediatric diabetes; aetiology and treatment.
The ability to work both autonomously and as a member of the nursing team/MDT across sites
Demonstrate self-direction and a willingness to develop their skills
Excellent organisational, prioritisation and problem-solving skills
The ability to support and teach staff, families and other professionals
The ability to work flexibly and manage change in a positive and effective way
Demonstrate resilience with a fast paced and unpredictable workload
This position will be supported by an allocated band 7 mentor, the Diabetes nurse lead and the wider diabetes team.
