Job summary

We would like to invite interested applicants to apply for the post of clinical fellow working within the Paediatric Critical Care Service within Bristol Royal Hospital for Children.

Bristol Children's PICU is a 18 bedded unit providing full intensive care services to the Southwest of England and cardiac surgical services to the Southwest and South Wales. BRHC is a designated paediatric trauma and burns centre with all specialties other than transplantation on site. The post would involve clinical duties on PICU as well as possibly in paediatric high dependency and the regional transport service.

Applicants must have completed a minimum of two years training in their base specialty and may come from a Paediatric, Anaesthetic, Intensive Care or an Emergency Medicine background. This post is also suitable for more senior doctors who wish paediatric intensive care or transport experience.

The post would be for 6 months in the first instance, and will be available for a start date from February/March 2024.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will join the team of doctors working within the Paediatric Critical Care Service. The Clinical Fellow will fully integrate into this team and will be expected to undertake training and duties in PICU and potentially within the paediatric high dependency and transport services. The level of responsibility will be related to the previous experience of the successful candidate

The junior medical staffing consists of a mixture of ST 2-8 trainees and clinical fellows from multiple specialties together with Advanced Nurse Practitioners

There are a minimum of 20 trainees attached to PICU at any one time. The duties are shared between PICU with the possibility of also covering the transport service and HDU rota. All shifts are full shifts.

This post is suitable for candidates at multiple levels of training and from a range of acute backgrounds including paediatrics, anaesthetics, intensive care medicine and emergency medicine.

Candidates should as a minimum have completed two years in their base specialty and preferably have previous intensive care experience.

They are responsible to the Consultants in Paediatric Intensive Care for the management of patients in the PICU. There are 2 PICU Consultants available for PICU 24 hours a day. A third Consultant is available for the Transport service 24 hours a day and a fourth consultant covers the HDU on an extended day basis
