Job summary

University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust wishes to appoint a Consultant Dermatologist to the Bristol Royal Infirmary (BRI). The post will involve working alongside our existing highly motivated team of Dermatologists who deliver dermatological care to the population of Bristol and the surrounding area. Applicants wishing to work less than full time are encouraged to apply.

The post holder will be based at the Bristol Dermatology Centre in the BRI but the role may include sessions at Weston general Hospital.

Our current team of dermatologists includes Consultants, Associate Specialist supported by Speciality Registrars Clinical Fellows. The Bristol Dermatology Department is a large teaching hospital department providing a full range of dermatological services for our local population as well as a regional service in paediatric dermatology, phototherapy, contact dermatitis, skin lymphoma and nail disease. As part of an undergraduate and postgraduate teaching Trust, we are the main regional training centre for dermatology trainees.

The Bristol Dermatology Centre is a self-contained facility including a phototherapy suite, contact dermatitis suite, day treatment area, skin surgery theatres, secretarial and consultant offices. The Dermatology Department provides a full range of services to the population of Bristol and adjacent areas (core catchment population approximately 400,000).

Main duties of the job

Clinical:

The successful candidate will be expected to comply with all relevant Trust policies relating to administration of patient care. This includes working to set timescales for the triage of referrals, the completion of discharge summaries prior to patients being discharged, following the specified process for the management of patients that do not attend (DNA) their appointment or admission, and the completion of all paperwork deemed necessary to support the management of their patients within agreed timescales. Consultants are also expected to work with service managers and clinical colleagues to manage their caseload in a flexible way, to ensure both clinical, national and local priorities, such as maximum waiting times for referral to treatment, are achieved.

Outpatient work:

There will be clinical sessions in outpatient clinics and skin surgery sessions. There may be some flexibility in sessions depending on clinical and service demands. The work will be clinical sessions in adult general dermatology, although some subspecialist dermatology may be included depending on the skills and experience of the appointee.

Dermatological surgery and Mohs

Skin cancer surgery is a large part of the departmental remit. Candidates with surgical skills will have full opportunity to be timetabled to undertake surgery at a level suitable for their training and experience.
