PhD research fellow in Gynae-oncology
We are currently seeking applications for a Senior Clinical Research Fellow (ST6+) in Gynae-oncology to start from April 2024. This will give the appointee an exciting opportunity to be involved in a PhD at the University of Bristol with Dr James Armstrong, Research Fellow, Proleptic Senior Lecturer and Chief Investigator. This project is fully funded (salary and consumables) and will address the clinical challenge of varied patient response to ovarian cancer chemotherapy. 3D cancer organoids will be generated using patient-derived ovarian cancer biopsies and used as a high throughput screen for different chemotherapy treatments. The purpose of this study is to establish and test this cell model at the University of Bristol, and use the results from drug screening and biopsy sequencing to train a machine learning to determine genetic predictors of drug response. The study already has ethics and is ready to recruit patients.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will work at St Michael's Hospital on the on-call rota in Obstetrics and Gynaecology which involve long days, weekends, and night duties with compensatory scheduled time off duty. The rest of the time will be involved in research.
Annual leave and study leave are covered prospectively. As a valued member of the middle-grade team you will be included in the educational and training activities of the unit and encouraged to contribute to the teaching of nurses, midwives and other junior doctors in the team.
