Job summary

We are looking for 2 Apprentice Dietetic Speech & Language Assistant Practitioners to join us at Bristol Royal Infirmary and Weston General Hospital.

These are new roles which we very excited to introduce to our teams.

Over 2 years you will work towards gaining a Level 5 Health & Social Care Diploma combining academic & work-based learning, while undertaking the day-to-day role of a dietetic speech & language assistant. Following successful completion of the course & training, we would look towards you progressing to Band 4 Dietetic Speech & Language Assistant Practitioner.

Main duties of the job

You will work in our front door units and wards to support the nutritional wellbeing and communication needs of identified patients on predominately Frailty pathways. This means working with & through various teams, patients & carers. Therefore, you will need to have good written & verbal communication skills, patience, and an empathic manner.

On the job training will be provided by the dietetic, speech & language teams to enable you to meet the main duties of an assistant.

There is a strict criterion to join us:

  1. You must have and be able to provide certificates for English and maths (GCSE grade 4 or above) or functional skills at Level 2.
  2. You need to have level 3 relevant qualifications i.e. A-levels/NVQ3 or equivalent.
  3. You must have previous experience as a healthcare support worker/assistant.
  4. Due to the dedication & time required to undertake the role of an apprentice, this job is not suitable to part time hours and requires a working week of 37.5 hours. Employment at UHBW will start once recruitment is fully completed.
  5. You will need to be organised and be prepared to study in your own time, but you will be allocated 1 day a week for college or self-directed study.
