Job summary

Fixed term GP role in the co-located GP stream in the Children's Emergency Department

We are inviting applications for an exciting new General Practitioner role working alongside paediatric colleagues in the Children's Emergency Department (CED) at the Bristol Royal Hospital for Children. This position may also have the opportunity to develop an Extended Role (GPwER) in acute Paediatrics, and to co-ordinate shifts between CED and the system p-ACE service run by BrisDoc (please see below).

Main duties of the job

We are looking for motivated, enthusiastic and paediatric-minded GP colleagues to apply for a regular working pattern in the GP stream. As this is a new service, applicants will be pro-active and flexible in their working, and will help contribute to the development of the optimal service model.

We are particularly looking for 5 GP colleagues to pick up one regular day of the week each, to include 8 hours a week/2 sessions of clinical work, plus one hour of flexible SPA. Applicants should specify at the point of application which day(s) they would be interested/available to work.

Essential

  • Experience in management of paediatric patients with chronic conditions in primary care
  • Knowledge of NHS priorities
  • Confidence and experience in paediatric urgent primary care (practice or out of hours)
  • Paediatric urgent care experience interest
  • Capability to assess children to accurately determine severity of illness, including recognising benign self-limiting clinicians as well as more serious/ rare presentations
  • To be able to manage uncertainty, share decision making and safety net comprehensively, while recognising unusual paedaitric presentations requiring ED expertise or advice
  • Child safeguarding experience

  • Experience working with diverse populations, including patients and families who do not speak English
