Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implant (TAVI) Structural Fellowship

Job summary

We seek to appoint a full time cardiology TAVI/Structural fellow for 1 year. The Bristol Heart Institute has been performing TAVI since 2008 and currently performs around 250 cases per annum. 4 specialist valve nurses support the running of the structural programme and the fellow will be expected to work closely with them in the pre, peri and post procedural care of patients. Further significant expansion of TAVI case volume is planned in 2021 with the opening of a 5th Cath lab. In addition to TAVI there is a comprehensive structural programme including mitra clip, PFO/ASD closure and paravalvar leak closure and depending on time commitments there may be opportunities to be involved in these cases.

Main duties of the job

The fellow can expect to become competent in all aspects of TAVI pre, procedural and post procedural care including CT assessment and planning, outpatient & MDT review, ultrasound guided vascular puncture, valve deployment, percutaneous vascular closure (proglide, prostar, manta) and post procedural care. In addition to excellent clinical and procedural training all fellows are expected to participate in departmental research and educational programmes, present at national and international conferences, and publish in peer-reviewed journals.

Research: It is expected that the successful applicant will support active structural research studies working closely with our research team to identify and enrol appropriate patients. There will be numerous opportunities to initiate and develop research streams and to publish.

Educational: To contribute to live case meetings once the new AV system is installed

Administration:

The successful candidate will be expected to participate in:

  • Coordination of medical expertise of TAVI pathway, including MDT, image interpretation
  • Team player, able to develop a culture that values colleagues and Specialist Valve nurses which enables them to engage in problem solving and decision making
  • Acts as a role model for senior as well as more junior colleagues
  • Understands and supports the vision and values of the Trust
  • Provides a role model for clinical leaders
