The Bristol Eye Hospital is increasing it's numbers of Senior Ophthalmic Practitioners to support the team and patients in this growing area.
Our department is a busy Emergency Department covering emergency treatment for the general public 7 days a week 365 days of the year. We receive referrals from GP's, community opticians, other hospitals and self-referrals from the general public.
The successful applicant must possess comprehensive ophthalmic knowledge and be able to demonstrate the ability to independently treat patients with no medical input, within national and local guidelines.
They must have excellent teaching skills and be able to assist the management team within the department in training staff and maintaining up to date competencies and frameworks for the clinical area.

Main duties of the job
The Emergency Department in Bristol Eye Hospital, UHBW NHS Foundation Trust is a tertiary ophthalmic centre treating ophthalmic emergencies 365 days per year, seven days per week.
The post holder will be required to work shifts from 07:45-18:00 hrs or 07:45-16:30 hrs including weekends. There is no requirement to work night shifts. The expectation is that at least one weekend in four will be worked.
The post holder will work as an integral member of the multi-disciplinary ophthalmic team within the Emergency Department. They will acknowledge and provide overall responsibility for the provision of a specialist nursing care, working within departmental and trust clinical guidelines to enable the safe assessment, treatment, and discharge of patients.
The post holder will utilise skills of clinical expertise, leadership, and education to ensure a seamless service for patients, carers and staff, providing advice, support and information throughout the care pathway.
