Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for Band 5 Occupational Therapist 5 to be part of an acute occupational therapy team to develop and consolidate graduate skills within the setting of acute paediatrics based at Bristol Royal Hospital for Children.

We are looking for a motivated Occupational Therapist to join our team at UHBW NHS Foundation Trust (CQC rated Good). You role will be to provide Occupational Therapy services to children and young people admitted to our medical and surgical wards with a focus in Trauma and Orthopaedics (including complex major trauma). There will also be opportunities for you to spend time with other specialities led by specialist OT's including neurosciences, burns, rheumatology, neonatal care and rare bone disease. After the initial 12 months, this post may also have the opportunity to rotate across to specialities within adult services as part of the wider UHBW trust.

Bristol Royal Hospital for Children is a specialised tertiary centre, taking the most complex referrals from both local and national centres. We are the paediatric major trauma centre for the South West of England and host a range of specialised services. You will work within a therapy team with a vast amount of experience with access to regular clinical supervision and a range of training opportunities. You must be an effective team player with excellent communication and organisational skills.

Main duties of the job

  • Work as a member of the acute occupational therapy team, supporting in-patients predominantly in the speciality of Major Trauma and Orthopaedics with opportunities in other acute specialities as caseload permits.
  • To provide a comprehensive inpatient and out-patient Occupational Therapy service consisting of assessment, intervention and discharge planning for a designated caseload of children and young people.
  • To co-ordinate with local and out of area community and social services occupational therapy teams in order to: facilitate safe discharge, obtain equipment and to ensure appropriate follow-up is in place after discharge.
  • To work within a multi-disciplinary team approach acting as an autonomous practitioner.
  • To assist in the development of Occupational Therapy Services
  • After the initial 12 months in Paediatrics, the post holder may rotate to medical and surgical specialities within adult services as part of the wider UHBW Trust.
