Job summary

The Training & Development Lead is responsible for the education, learning and development of the vascular science workforce. Ensuring team develop and utilising skills in leadership & management, clinical & scientific and research & audit, to transform the way care is delivered to ensure exceptional service is provided to all our patients, every day. They will work closely with the Head of Vascular Science to support the operational and strategic planning of the service and deputise as needed. They will uphold an active professional educational role in wider groups including the Society of Vascular Technology (SVT), Health Education England (HEE), The National School of Healthcare Science (NSHCS) and The Academy for Healthcare Science (AHCS).

Main duties of the job

Undertake, interpret and report complex ultrasound scans and other tests for vascular conditions, working autonomously at a senior level

Be a positive and professional role model of Good Scientific Practice with strong visible leadership

Take responsibility for the education and training of all staff (clinical and non-clinical) within VSU and ensure the service is committed to the Trust's Education Strategy

Direct and participate in clinical scientific and technical teaching, training and assessment of peers, undergraduates, post-graduates and other healthcare professionals

Take on the responsibility of STP Training Officer and Vascular Degree Apprenticeship Practice Educator

Line manage trainees within Vascular Science

Work closely with the Head of Vascular Science to support the operational and strategic planning of the service and deputise as needed.

  • Extensive practical clinical experience with autonomous proficiency in complex vascular assessment at a senior level using critically evaluated interpretation and clinical judgement skills
  • Comprehensive theoretical knowledge of vascular diseases, haemodynamics and the physics of ultrasound
  • Experience of being a senior member of staff and taking a clinical and operational lead in day to day running's of a department
  • Expert knowledge of the local and national Vascular Science and associated training and education programmes and opportunities
  • Experience of training, mentoring and developing others
  • Leadership experience at local level

Desirable

  • Leadership experience at local level, regional and national level
  • Experience of managing and appraising staff.

Qualifications and Training

Essential

  • MSc in Healthcare Science/Vascular Ultrasound or equivalent experience/knowledge
  • Accredited Vascular Scientist (AVS) with the Society for Vascular Technology of Great Britain and Northern Ireland or NSHCS STP Certificate of Completion
  • HCPC registration confirmed (or equivalence in progress)
  • Evidence of continuing professional development

  • Leadership and/or management training/qualification

  • Leadership, vision, strategic thinking and planning skills
