The Surgical & Trauma Assessment Unit (STAU) at the Bristol Royal Infirmaryhas recently re-located increasing the wards capacity. We are therefore looking to recruit experienced nurses with a broad range of clinical skills, ideally with surgical or admissions unit background. This is friendly team working in a diverse and exciting environment. We specialise in the initial assessment of acute surgical and trauma patients referred by their GP's or the Emergency Department.
We offer plenty of support to our new staff, in terms of training, guidance and mentorship from nursing colleagues and the whole multi-disciplinary team. This is a great place to develop your clinical examination and pain management skills, problem solving ability, discharge planning, and shift co-ordination experience.
Main duties of the job
- In partnership with other professionals and disciplines, develop measurable patient care plans/goals. The process should include assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care from admission to timely transfer or discharge.
- Take charge of the clinical needs of a group of defined patients on the ward /department prioritising workload according to changing clinical need over a 24 period.

- Work towards regularly taking charge of the ward/department on occasion prioritising workload according to changing clinical need over a 24 period.
- Delegate tasks and activities to a range of team members in relation to patient care (for example when taking charge or as link nurse)
- Ensure nursing documentation is maintained, accurate and timely in line with the Trust standard To demonstrate awareness and compliance with Trust policies, procedures, guidelines and standards. To work towards promoting this to others. Promote and maintain a safe environment for patient: Administer medicines in accordance with Trust policy.
- Promote a clean environment and the prevention of hospital acquired infection
This is an inpatient ward and our staff are expected to work a range of shifts across the whole week, including nights, long days and weekends.
