Job summary
Neonatal Intensive Care Unit - NICU. Staff Nurse.
Our NICU is a tertiary unit for the population of the South West Neonatal Operational Delivery Networks (ODN) and consists of a total of 31 cots including 15 intensive care cots, 8 high dependency cots and 8 special care cots. The unit also helps support our 16 cot Transitional Care Ward. We are currently part of a review of services across Bristol with the potential of our numbers increasing by 8 ITU and 2 HDU cots.
The unit provides care for sick newborn infants with a wide variety of medical, surgical and cardiac conditions. We also provide a transport team for the region's hospitals Newborn Emergency Stabilisation & Transport Team (NEST).
Neonatal experience and neonatal qualifications are preferred but not essential. Registered adult nurses or midwives with critical care experience are also encouraged to apply.
Main duties of the job
- Assess, plan, deliver and evaluate prescribed treatment and care for patients and their families
- Communicate effectively and maintain confidentiality with patient's carers and the multi disciplinary team
- Act as a professional role model setting standards of practice
- Promote clinical effectiveness and opportunities for teaching junior colleagues and students
- Promote and maintain a safe environment for patients.
- Administer medicines in accordance with Trust policy.
- Develop clinical skills and participate in continuous professional development
- Provide accurate timely contemporary records of care and treatment in line with Trust record keeping policy and NMC
