Job summary

We are looking for a dynamic, innovative and highly motivated Advanced Nurse Practitioner. This Band 7 role is to be part of the Advanced Nurse Practitioner Team based within the Bristol Heart Institute. Developmental Band 6 to 7 Trainee ANP will be considered.

We are closely integrated group of 9 nurse Practitioners managing the care of patients who are either awaiting cardiac surgery or those who have undergone cardiac surgery.

We work closely along side the cardiac surgical team of Registrars and Consultants. Our role also extends to working closely with the Intensivist Team on Cardiac Intensive Care.

In addition we work in partnership with the nursing team on wards C708, C705, C805, CCU and CICU. On occasion our role also extends to the Out-patient department C503.

Main duties of the job

Your role will include but will not be limited to:

  • Delivering high quality care to elective and emergency patients before and after cardiac surgical procedures
  • Working across divisional and professional boundaries, encouraging inter-disciplinary working for the benefit of improved patient outcomes and efficient use of resources
  • Ensuring the delivery of evidence based care to patients and be actively involved in audit of practice, research and service improvement
  • Performing a wide variety of responsibilities previously undertaken by junior medical staff. Working closely with our Registrars and Consultant Surgeons.

The ideal applicant will:

  • Be an experienced Cardiac nurse who is a Non-Medical Prescriber
  • Have a thorough knowledge of cardiovascular disease
  • Have excellent clinical, decision making and communication skills
  • Be able to work as part of a team and autonomously as the situation requires
  • Be committed to undertake continued professional development and working towards a Masters Level qualification.
  • Have experience in managing the care for patients in a High Dependency, Enhanced Recovery and Ward environment.
  • Be actively involved in service development and quality improvement.
